my camera can take video.
sometimes i play around with it.
usually i don’t get around to actually doing anything with footage.
partially because i only have i-movie for post production work.
partially because my 3 year old macbook is slowly dying.
partially because i have so many other priorities.
sometimes, however, i get around to doing something with footage.
like at the jamie delaine workshop i went to this past month.
can’t do much with i-movie, but i feel good about what i put together:

jamie delaine is a wedding & portrait photographer based out of langley, bc. i first heard of her when a friend of mine on facebook linked to her friends’ engagement photos, taken by jamie. so i started following her blog. then, when she announced that she was hosting a workshop in june, i thought it would be a great opportunity to learn from someone who’s made quite a name for herself at such a young age.
that workshop was yesterday.
i have to admit: i haven’t spent a ton of energy on my photography during the last few months, my website still isn’t ready to be public yet, & i’ve been working a lot at my other job. needless to say, i felt quite nervous & intimidated going into it. plus i sometimes suffer from social anxiety.
but, of course, my fears were silly. i wouldn’t be going to a workshop if i already had all my shit together. and all the ladies who were at the workshop were beautiful, personable & friendly. we might all be in slightly different boats, but we’re floating in the same water. is that a lame analogy, or what?
jamie’s studio is so beautiful. she’s got such a great eye for color & details. plus she is so sweet – each of us 17 workshop attendees received a personalized card, a beautifully wrapped moleskin journal, and a mink chocolate bar. (mink chocolates are my fav).
it was a packed day. she talked about how she started her business, & gave great tips about branding, client relationships, finances, etc. then she did a stylized photoshoot with a couple, for us to see how she interacts with her clients, how she poses them, and how she works with the light she has. that was a great, hands on experience, and we all got to be camera-happy ourselves. poor sam & leanne, with 15+ cameras directed at them for an hour.
i’ll let my photos do the rest of the talking:

the makeup for the styled shoot was done by kristy lee makeup

i can’t imagine how intimidating it would be to do a photoshoot with 17 other photographers watching you. if jamie was nervous at all, she didn’t show it.
